Terms of Use

Last updated: June 3, 2026  ·  Effective: June 3, 2026

By downloading or using Trace, you agree to these terms. Please read them — they're written to be clear, not to hide anything. Trace is a personal journaling tool, and these terms reflect that.

1. Acceptance of terms

These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of the Trace iOS application ("App"). By downloading, installing, or using the App, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the App after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the new Terms.

2. What Trace is

Trace is a personal journaling and mood tracking application designed for individual, private use. It allows you to:

Trace is a wellness tool for self-reflection. It is not a medical device, mental health service, or crisis intervention platform.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years of age to use Trace. By using the App, you confirm that you meet this requirement. If you are under 18, you should review these Terms with a parent or guardian.

4. Your content

All content you create in Trace — journal entries, photos, mood logs — belongs to you. We do not claim any ownership over your personal data.

Because Trace stores all data locally on your device, you are solely responsible for maintaining and backing up your content. We have no ability to recover lost data if you delete the app or lose your device.

Trace has no access to your content. We cannot read, retrieve, or restore anything you write. Your entries are yours alone.

5. Acceptable use

You agree to use Trace only for lawful, personal purposes. You agree not to:

6. Not a medical or mental health service

Trace is a journaling and reflection tool. It is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any medical or psychological condition. The insights and reflections generated by the App are based solely on your own entries and are for personal reflection only — not clinical or therapeutic advice.

If you are experiencing a mental health crisis or emergency, please contact a qualified healthcare professional or emergency services.

7. Intellectual property

The Trace app, including its design, code, visual elements, and brand, is owned by us and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the App for personal, non-commercial purposes.

You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or lease any part of the App or its content.

8. App Store terms

Trace is distributed through the Apple App Store. Your use of the App is also subject to Apple's Terms of Service. In the event of any conflict between these Terms and Apple's terms, Apple's terms govern with respect to the App Store.

Apple is not a party to these Terms and has no obligation to provide support for the App.

9. Disclaimer of warranties

Trace is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of bugs. We are not responsible for any loss of data resulting from App errors, device failure, or accidental deletion.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of Trace, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of profits, or emotional harm.

Our total liability for any claim related to the App shall not exceed the amount you paid for the App in the 12 months preceding the claim.

11. Termination

You may stop using Trace at any time by deleting the App from your device. Deleting the App will permanently remove all locally stored data.

We reserve the right to update or discontinue the App at any time, with or without notice.

12. Governing law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the jurisdiction in which we operate. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of that jurisdiction.
